Early Life and Career
Ryan Rodney Reynolds was born on October 23, 1976 in Vancouver, Canada. Reynolds, the youngest of four brothers, “was a really nervous kid,” he told GQ magazine. “I was extremely sensitive … I was so aware of everything around me.” He sought solace in school plays, where his fragility might be an advantage rather than a liability. Reynolds’ first professional acting gig came when he was 12 years old. He was cast in a Canadian adolescent drama called Hillside, which was eventually renamed Fifteen when it premiered in the United States. The program aired from 1991 until 1993.
@vancityreynolds failed to launch his career beyond the age of fifteen. He was cast in a few minor parts, including a cameo appearance on The X-Files. Even after graduating from high school, Reynolds had to work odd jobs to make ends meet. He used to work late-night shifts at a supermarket.
Ryan Reynolds relocated to Los Angeles in the late 1990s after travelling with a buddy. He landed his first significant television role in 1998, portraying a medical student on the comedy Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place (later renamed Two Guys and a Girl). After the sitcom ended in 2001, Ryan Reynolds quickly transitioned to feature films. In the comedy National Lampoon’s Van Wilder (2002), he played a fun-loving college student. Despite its dismal box office performance, the picture went on to become a cult favourite.
Filmographies
Ryan Reynolds performed in a series of mediocre films for many years, both critically and financially speaking. He portrayed a vampire hunter in Blade: Trinity (2004), with Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel, and appeared in the 2005 remake The Amityville Horror. While his films did not amaze viewers, Ryan Reynolds remained quite popular. In 2007, he was named “Sexiest Renaissance Man” by People magazine in their “Sexiest People” edition.
***’X-Men Origins: Wolverine’
Reynolds’ cinematic career skyrocketed in 2009. He portrayed the mercenary Deadpool in Hugh Jackman’s breakthrough film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Ryan Reynolds demonstrated his comic abilities in The Proposal, which he co-starred in alongside Sandra Bullock. He continues to excel professionally, widening his horizons with the indie drama Buried in 2010. Reynolds portrayed an American worker in Iraq who is abducted and buried alive.
***’The Green Lantern’
Reynolds triumphantly returned to the big screen in 2011. He co-starred alongside Blake Lively in The Green Lantern, a comic book superhero film. Ryan Reynolds subsequently shown his comic abilities in The Change-Up alongside Jason Bateman before taking on a tragic part as an agent in Safe House (2012), supporting Denzel Washington.
Not one to slow down, he has also voiced animated flicks The Croods and Turbo, both released in 2013, as well as independent films The Voices (2014), The Captive (2014), and Mississippi Grind. He had a supporting part in the biopic Woman in Gold (2015) and featured in the thriller Self/Less.
***’Deadpool’ Franchise
The year 2016 was even better for Ryan Reynolds since his labor of love, Deadpool, was finally released after 16 years of production. The eccentric superhero picture became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, earning its star a Golden Globe nomination. Deadpool 2 had a similar success following its release in May 2018, generating about $800 million worldwide.
***’Detective Pikachu’ and ‘Underground 6’
Reynolds then turned his humorous abilities to the live-action/animated Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019), where he voiced the titular fuzzy yellow creature. Later that year, he landed an action role in Netflix’s Underground 6, as the head of a crew of renegade agents out to hunt out the world’s worst baddies.
Personal Life
Reynolds has received a great deal of attention for his personal life. He dated singer Alanis Morissette for a number of years. The couple was engaged in 2004, but split up in 2007. Ryan Reynolds began dating actress Scarlett Johansson that same year. The pair married in an intimate ceremony in 2008.
Reynolds faced personal anguish when he and Johansson announced their separation in December 2010. “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage,” the pair stated in a joint statement. “We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it.”
The gifted actor found love again with Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively. The pair married on September 9, 2012, in Charleston, South Carolina, after dating for less than a year. Reynolds and Lively had their first child, a girl called James, in December 2014. On September 30, 2016, the couple had their second child, a girl called Ines.
